A museum ticket from an afternoon you didn't plan…or the receipt from the restaurant you still talk about. A boarding pass from your first flight somewhere new…or the postcard you almost forgot you bought.
These little things may not look particularly important when you're packing your suitcase to come home, but years later, they can bring back details that photos alone sometimes can't.

For me, Japan had always been a bucket-list destination. After finally planning the trip I had dreamed about for years, it was postponed, and eventually canceled, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. When I finally rescheduled my trip for 2024, seeing TOKYO printed on my boarding pass felt like a long-awaited sigh of relief. But nothing compared to the emotions that came flooding in when I finally stepped off the plane in Japan. Now, that boarding pass is more than a piece of paper…it takes me right back to the feeling of finally arriving somewhere I had waited so long to see.
2. Tickets
Museum admissions, train tickets, concert tickets, attraction passes, ferry tickets, sporting events — save them!
Tickets are some of our favorite travel keepsakes because they're tied to a specific experience. Years later, seeing one can instantly bring you back to what you did that day, who you were with, and how it felt to be there.
3. Postcards
You don't have to mail a postcard for it to be meaningful.
Pick one that captures a place you loved and write a few sentences on the back about your trip. Where did you stay? What was your favorite moment? What surprised you?
